Some external projects now require the Alignerr Connect Extension in order to work on them. When a project has this setting enabled, you (the Alignerr) must install the extension before you can start working on that project. This guide covers what the extension does, how to install it, and what to expect once it’s active.

What is the Alignerr Connect extension?

On the surface, working with the extension installed looks and feels the same as before. There’s no change to your day-to-day workflow or interface. Under the hood, though, the extension adds a security check: it detects and blocks anonymized network connections (VPN) when you try to access certain project-related sites. If the extension detects that your connection is being routed through a VPN, it will block access to the project. To resolve this, simply turn off your VPN (or otherwise switch to a direct, non-anonymized connection). Once your connection is no longer flagged as anonymized, access is restored automatically. There’s no need to contact support or wait for anything on the backend.

How to install the extension

  1. Open the project.
  2. If VPN detection is enabled for your project, you’ll see a prompt to install the extension. Click Install Alignerr Connect.
  3. This takes you to the Chrome Web Store listing for the Alignerr Connect Extension.
  4. Click Add to Chrome.
  5. Once installed, the install prompt on the project page will disappear, and you’ll be able to access and work on the project as normal.
That’s it, no additional configuration is required. Once installed, the extension runs in the background and only becomes noticeable if it detects an anonymized connection.

What to do if you use a VPN

If you normally work using a VPN, proxy, Tor, or a hosting network, be aware:
  • Access to certain external project tools may be blocked while the extension detects that kind of connection.
  • To regain access, disable the VPN/proxy or switch to a direct, unmasked connection.
  • If you retry the site while still on a flagged connection, it will continue to block access — the fix is changing your connection, not retrying.
